The Larson Gallery presents three CEEP activities every year. A description of these participatory activities is listed below:
GOAL: to introduce young artists to career opportunities in arts related fields including museum studies, graphic design, fine arts, architecture and much more. This goal is accomplished through meetings and presentations with students at the Larson Gallery and the installation of the ESD 105 High School Art Show.
-Students develop skills in being able to talk about their artwork and “interpret” other artwork. They learn about writing an artist statement and developing a portfolio. They learn the requisite steps to take in pursuing a post-high school education in the arts.
-Students learn how a museum functions and discover the nature of what it means to be a Curator, Collections Manager, Education Director, Exhibits Design, Preparator, Development Officer, and Museum Director.
-Students learn installation methods that meet the standards of the American Association of Museums. They learn about the importance of developing exhibition themes, label copy, press releases and other publicity, and hosting a reception.
-Students install the February 2012 ESD show guided by Cheryl Hahn, Larson Gallery Director. This will be the first hands-on experience utilizing skills articulated above.
-Students learn about career opportunities in art related fields. Students learn about the requisite steps they need to take to pursue these careers in terms of education, application, the interview process, etc.
PROCESS: Goals are reached through meetings, presentations, working sessions, and discussions with students. High Schools are invited to participate.
